Day 4, after yesterday's hectic schedule, we decided to go slow today and let the kids sleep till they wake up.
Archie is up, and up to no good immediately. Walking around the room in Mama's shoes. We started off with somewhere nearby, 台北車站, which is just one stop away from 善導寺站.
There is a massive underground mall here, known as the 台北地下街, broken into a few sections. 台北車站 is one of the busier place in Taipei as it is a major transport node, serving as a interchange for rail, MRT and buses.
不知不覺,we wandered into 誠品 again. This time into it's 誠品站前店。
Again we were attracted by the exquisite merchandises that they carried, saw this jigsaw puzzle and we just had to buy it. It looks like a display cabinet of an assortment of canned drinks. The challenge now is to find time to complete it and to keep it away from the kids during the works-in-progress stage.
We had our lunch at the underground mall as well. Went to 八方雲集 鍋貼水餃專賣店, which is famous for their gyoza, which we did not try! Instead we were smitten by their braised beef noodle, 紅燒牛肉面. The beef was very tender and the soup stock is rich and sweeten with carrots and radishes. Yummy!
We also tried 繼光香香雞,again we did not go for their specialty.
Instead we were for fried cuttlefish/squid. Very generous serving and cheaper pricing compared to what we get in Singapore. The cuttlefish is sliced to the right thickness and the texture is springy, together with the crispy batter, it makes a mouth watering combination. The kids could not get enough of it.
Sarah putting on her best behaviour, in hope of being rewarded with more cuttlefish.
After lunch, we went above ground to explore, we discovered that the underground was more interesting.
The kids were still tired from yesterday's exertions, so we had to amend our itinerary, instead of heading to 北投溫泉公園 the hot spring park,we decided to head back to the hotel for a siesta.
We overslept, were supposed to reach 淡水 in time to catch the sunset, by the time we arrived, it was already pitch dark. It's not that we were very late, but the sun sets at 5pm in Taipei at this time of the year.
This photo of the 淡水捷運站 was 6.38pm when we arrived.
We went to the old street 淡水老街,which is just behind the station.
1 minute into the street, the ladies found something to buy.
Mama bought for her a navy blue sailor themed, two piece blouse and skirt, almost bought her this cap as well.Went food hunting for 淡水‘s specialties.
阿给 (Arcade), no video games inside, just an oily bean curd with vermicelli fillings.
Pa in the queue for Arcade. Verdict, worth a try but nothing out of this world.
Now to satisfy Sarah's cravings, fish balls.
It's been a while.
Almost moved her to tears.
This is great stuff! Grilled cuttlefish!
Three sizes to choose from, S, M, L. We went for M. Could not tell the difference in size myself.
Pa got to try his 'metal' eggs, 淡水鐵蛋。Looks in grapes on stick in this photo.
Not the hyped 阿婆鐵蛋 (grandma's metal egg) but 網路阿伯鐵蛋 (online uncle's metal egg) instead.
Mama had a huge appetite, she went for Taipei 101.
101 potato stick not the skyscraper.
Spongebob was caught and grilled alive. Good riddance.
We bought what we wanted to eat and went to the river promenade for our dinner. With 淡水河 and 八里 in the background. There was also a black dog prowling in circle around us, waiting for any food opportunity. Blackie drew two extreme responses from the kids, Sarah was wary of the dog and cried for Mama whenever he was near. But Archie was excited and yearning for the dog to come close. He imitated dog barks on occasion in hope to catching blackie's attention, much to Sarah's dismay.
Went to the house of hats.
"I thought I saw a parking warden."
Scrooge Pa finally bought something, a cap, similar to Archie's, at a bargain, less than SGD $10.
Before we came to Taipei, Sarah had already been asking for a tiara. Mama boldly promised her that she would get her one in Taipei. Tonight in 淡水,she fulfilled her promise to her daughter. Sarah loved her tiara / hairband so much, she has been wearing everyday since she got it.
The excited princess posing with her hair band.
The weather was wonderful, so we just kept on walking down the promenade.
Took this family photo under a fig tree.Yaya and Mama.
He was more worried about falling into the water than posing for the photo.
Archie is so 'high' in this particular picture.
There is an interesting mix of cafes and 民歌餐廳 along the way. Soothing live music accompanying us as we strolled by the river.
End of our walk.
Wanted to attempt to walk to 漁人碼頭,but gave up halfway, a tad too ambitious. We had planned to return another day to catch the sunset and the ferry ride to 八里 and 漁人碼頭。But in the end, we were not able to to it before we leave Taipei. On the way back to MRT station, Pa pit stopped at 50嵐。
叫了一杯烏龍奶茶。
味道還不錯,茶味香甜。
While we were interchanging at 台北車站,she bumped into the Hello Kitty Train.
Back at the hotel, the two of them still going strong.Sychronised somersault, a new sports event?
Our loots so far.
小人國 tomorrow!
